We can see a great difference between the Early Church’s obedience to Christ’s command and the churches of today. Acts 5:42 reveals this obedience, “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” In the Early Church, the Christians were convicted and were willing to “sell out” in order to obey God. This is shown in Acts 2:45, “And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had a need.” These Christians were not only willing to sell out, but they became as ONE. They all had only one goal and that was to win souls to Jesus Christ. Oh, Christians of today, how we need the solidarity that the Early Church had. There was no jealous or strife, just JESUS. We need this concern for the lost to the point that we are willing to sell out — give up all to follow Jesus.
God honored the Early Church’s obedience to His command for in Acts. 2:47, the Word of God says “And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” What Jesus Christ desires is a WILLING VESSEL. One who is willing to obey HIS commandments? We are not to do anything, but yield our members to be used of God. God has no hands, no feet, no mouth, no body but ours. If we would but give of ourselves to the work of God, He will add to the church. For in the final analysis, it is Jesus that speaks through us, Jesus that convicts, and Jesus that saves. If we would just say YES to God and let Him take control of this human body with His anointing, we would see God move in our souls as never before. |
